Mexico City and the Mexican life

Hello everyone,

The best thing about traveling for a long time is, that you are flexible and can change your plans any second. My plan has been to go on Monday to Oaxaca and the further south. Instead I meet Mexicans and am living with them in Mexico City right now. The great thing about this is, that I get to see the country from another perspektive. I tried lots of different food and drinks already, some great some less good. I learned about living here and about the downsides. For example I was shocked when I was asked if a dress going to the knees is to short. In Europe nowadays this would be normal or even long. As I said no and asked why they think it is short I was told that the women need to be careful over here. It is dangerous for them which I knew but when they told me if the dress is to short and something happens the police tells them they provoked it and it therefore is their fault. How shocking and still it shows that even though there are problems in Germany, they are nothing compared to what is out there. Sure everyone will say they knew about it, but in my opinion it is different having a person actually facing those threats tell you and be near it or read about it in a newspaper. One reason I love traveling as it opens your eyes.

All this I could never have seen if I would have sticked to my plan. Sure I will not see every country I planned but I therefore start understanding the world over here which is worth more. I totally changed my plans so I do not know how much more time I will spend here. Maybe I leave Monday, maybe when my back tells me I can no longer sleep on the floor or maybe I stay anther month. Let’s see what this travel will bring.

Advices for Central America

Mexico:

Advices in general:

- go to the local markets and food trucks. Food will be much cheaper and it’s safe if you go somewhere where many people go

- at the coast you can camp nearly everywhere so if you want to safe money bring a tent.

Cancun:

- don’t do a Chichen Itza your but do it yourself with a rental car. Will be cheaper and better - trust me

Mexico City:

- you can do Teotihuacán easily yourself. Take a bus from the north bus station. No need to do a tour

Palenque:

- Roberto Barrios is a very nice trip. Do it as long as not many people know about it

Tulum:

- rent a car to go to Cobra and Sian Kaan, both worth a trip

Tulum, Coba & Mexico City

Hello everyone,

Unfortunately I broke my phone which is the reason I had to skip a week. I do finally have a new phone now and therefore I am able to write posts again 👍🏻

The last two weeks I spend visiting some Maya Ruins and beaches. In Tulum we rented a car and drove to Sian Kaan as well as Coba. It has been a great trip as we got to beautiful lonely beaches and got to see a less touristic Ruin.

Tulum:

Coba:

The Compass of the city

The biggest Pyramid in Coba. Still accessible for visitors

The great view from the Top

As someone may have noticed these white shorts are new. Unfortunately biking around in Tulum, my pants broke when I tried to get on the bike therefore I need new ones....

Sian Kaan:

The lagoon, unfortunately not recommended to swim there because there are crocodiles (they should have had a sign for it...)

The beach just for ourselves

After Yutacán I flew over to Mexico City or more precise I flew to Tuluca. Did not notice my flight didn’t go to Mexico City but it all went well. Here in Mexico City there is a terrific ruin as well: Teotihuacán:

In Mexico City is a market right now therefore i could taste many different local snacks:

On Monday I will leave to Oaxaca.

Hear you soon

Cancún,Chichen Itza, Cozumel and Playa Del Carmen

Hello 👋 ,

After having a few last great days with Felipe in Cartagena, we unfortunately had to go our own way. I flew to Mexico, which turned out to be very expensive as I felt asleep on the airport and missed my flight. Obviously had to buy another one...

But I still made it to Mexico and meet Laura in Cancun. Right now I am off the Backpackertrack. Cancun, Cozumel, Playa Del Carmen and our next destinations are all very touristic and therefore it feels right now a bit like holidays instead of traveling.

Right now is spring break in the US. Therefore there are lots of US Americans everywhere and we will even go back to Cancun for one week of spring break which will be most likely one week of beach and parties.

Cancun itself is Mexico’s Tourist Capital and therefore it is hard to spot any Mexican vibes. Same for Playa Del Carmen. Cozumel on the other hand somehow managed to have a relaxed atmosphere even though there are lots of cruise ships. Furthermore there are wonderful dive spots. The water is very clear and you can see amazingly far. We got to see a huge Muraenidea and a big turtle, which you could probably have been riding on.

Chichen Itza

The snake is a phenomenal which happens twice each year (21.03. And 22.09) where the suns light seem to make the snake move downstairs)

Playa Del Carmen

Playa Del Carmen right now with lots of algals.

After this weekend we will be heading to Tulum.

Hope no one in Germany froze so far.

Sending some sun from Mexico
